About Us

The Northamptonshire Mental Health Stigma Programme Group was initially formed as part of national initiative launched by the National CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Support Service to implement a Tackling Stigma Framework.

The framework aims to help professionals think about how to tackle stigma in different ways and to help organisations consider who might be involved in order to have the greatest impact. More importantly, it will help to ensure that young people know how to access services and are at the centre of local plans, so that they can be involved in decision-making about the choices available to them. Northamptonshire was one of six pilot sites from across England that took part in the process.

The Northamptonshire Mental Health Stigma Programme Group has developed this website and a DVD to challenge people’s perceptions of mental health stigma. The Tackling Stigma DVD was researched, written, filmed and produced by the group.
The group aims to increase mental health awareness and draw attention to the stigma and discrimination experienced by young people with mental health needs and also wants to challenge the negative perception of mental health needs.

Through their work, the group aims to educate young people on mental health needs and the issues associated with them whilst also informing them how and where they can get help and support. The Northamptonshire Mental Health Stigma Programme Group wants to encourage others to take responsibility for tackling the inequalities and stigma that young people with mental health needs experience.
